Forthcoming meetings

DATE: Wednesday 14th July 2010, 4pm EVENT: All Party Group on Legal Aid VENUE: Committee Room 19 of the Houses of Parliament TITLE: 'Legal Aid - what it means for your constituents'
The procedure is that MPs and Lords have precedence over everyone else and so can raise matters of concern to them. Subject to time constraints (these meetings usually last no longer than one and a half hours - at most two hours), the Chair will try to call people who wish to speak and take as many questions and points from those attending as is possible. If you are able to attend the meeting we would be delighted to see you there. Please could you publicise the meeting to any groups or contacts you have who might be interested. It would be great to have a well attended meeting with lots of people from a mixture of organisations and if anybody who has been in receipt of help under the legal aid scheme could come along it would be very helpful to have their contributions. We would like to ensure that the meeting covers:- - the importance of the service legal aid provides - both crime and civil issues - the effect of the latest round of contracts - the effect of any future cuts on constituents/clients and providers. We would recommend that anyone coming arrives by 3.45pm at the main entrance (St. Stephen's Gate) to ensure that they can get through security in time. For a map and public transport information, please see http://www.parliament.uk/documents/facilities/maps/colmap.pdf.
(If you are running late and there is a huge crowd of tourists waiting to go through security, attendees have found that going through on the left hand side and explaining to the person there that they are late for a specific event does lead to them being allowed straight in.)
